It’s been a great start to the week, with the announcements for the Great Taste Awards 2020! We put forward two products this year, our British Pesto and Original Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil, with both being awarded!
There were some wonderful comments from the judges too!
Our Original Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil was given these comments:
‘Characteristic bright yellow colour and nutty nose. This nuttiness continues into the flavour and is like the inside of young nut. A reasonable length of flavour and this drifts off leaving a subtle aftertaste. A mellow oil that has identity but doesn’t overwhelm. None of the brassica notes sometimes found in rapeseed. This is a good example. Rich with a pleasing viscosity but not greasy. Clean and bright, we would enjoy using this oil.’
‘This oil is beautifully golden. It has a a cobnut aroma, which is really unique and interesting. The oil has a lovely viscosity and it coats the mouth beautifully, without feeling cloying or greasy. The flavour is fresh and reminiscent of handfuls of young nuts as well as having grassy elements too. It has great length and the finish is long and savoury. For an oil, this has incredible flavour on its own and is very impressive. We’d love to cook with this oil and to put it in dressings. This is a well-made rapeseed oil and should be commended.’
…and our Pesto sauce received these comments:
‘This pesto is a verdant forest green. It has a varied texture featuring whole pine nuts and a good proportion of oil, which mixes readily. There’s pronounced sweet basil, garlic and black pepper on the nose. The sweet and pungent basil is vibrant. Plenty of upfront cheese dominates the palate. This intense array of flavours culminates in a rich black pepper spicy finish to make a really appealing pesto to have over hot pasta or as a dip.’
‘A rich forest green richly condensed pesto sauce. It has an intense flavour which works well with pasta. We liked its finish of freshly ground black pepper. The dominant flavour is cheese with the basil coming through more subtly.’
